Boating was a favorite pastime on the Matfield River, which was sometimes called the Elmwood River. The house at the right was the Ezra Whitman place at 590 Bedford St., later the home of Mrs. Bush. At the left is the S. Davenport house at 587 Bedford St. and the large house behind it is the Walter Benson place at 541 Bedford St.
